Multi-layered Antique Chest of Drawers

9.28.2013

On The Market  *** SOLD! ***

If I'm being honest, when we came across this simple painted dresser, which was in rough, but extremely solid shape, our intention was to sand it down and paint in a lovely neutral colour.  BUT, once the sanding started it was discovered that there were multiple layers of paint - as you would expect from a piece that we're thinking, guessing is from 1890-1900.

Multi-layered Antique Dresser
Measurements:  40" wide x 31" high x 18" deep

So, rather than making this a run of the mill refinished dresser, we decided to let its history speak for itself - and we think it was the right decision!  Once sanding was completed, a protective coat of poly was applied.

Definitely usable if you're into shabby chic, but also great for the more eclectic minded in design.

Perfect for use as a bedside table, hall or accent console.  Possibilities are endless!

This chest of drawers seems to be in the style of Eastlake Furniture, based on the wheat motif on its face and the pin and cove dovetail joined drawers.  Hardware is obviously new, but it suits.
